Where WNY Dogs and Cats Go
To Find Loving New Homes

What is Post-A-Pooch-Plus?

The Post-A-Pooch-Plus website is an online posting service specifically designed to help personal pet owners safely re-home much loved pets they can no longer keep.

Cost to post a pet: The entire $25.00 fee for posting a pet is reimbursed directly to the original pet owner by the adopter at the time of adoption. The pet's listing with photo will be posted on www.postapoochplus.com until the pet is successfully re-homed regardless of the time frame.

Cost to adopt a pet: The adoption fee is $25.00 to be paid directly to the original pet owner at the time of adoption. Since the $25.00 posting fee is the amount that changes hands, the pet is not flippantly passed on "free to a good home" nor is the pet being sold for profit.

Spaying and Neutering: Pets eligible for re-homing must be spayed/neutered before posting. It is important to be sure the pet is not adding to the pet overpopulation problem. Our website offers low cost pediatric and adult spay/neuter assistance information.

Why Adopt a Pet Through
Post-A-Pooch-Plus?

The pet owner can provide health records as well as history on the pets personality, needs, likes and dislikes. Specific information about the pet will encourage an appropriate re-homing.

Many dogs in need of re-homing are beyond the puppy stage and already housebroken, crate trained, proven to be good with children etc. Many cats in need of re-homing are completely litter trained and used to being indoor family pets.

By adopting a pet directly from its home to your home, you may save it from entering a shelter until its re-homing can be arranged. As kind as shelter staff may be, they cannot always guarantee that a pet will quickly adjust to shelter life and be successfully adopted in a timely fashion.

By adopting a rescued pet or someone elses beloved pet in need of re-homing, you will not be lining the pocket of a possibly unscrupulous pet dealer who makes money by selling pets for profit and exploiting them in the process.

Our Definitions

A PERSONAL PET is a pet that has an owner of record or someone who has taken on the responsibility of care and vetting for that animal as part of the family regardless of the time frame.

SAFE RE-HOMING is when a beloved pet is adopted by a new family directly from its current home, bypassing the unpredictable, overcrowded shelter system and avoiding "free to a good home" ads.

The PET OWNER is the current and/or legal owner of the pet. In the case of a dog, the person to whom the dog is licensed is the owner of record. For other pets, the owner is the person currently responsible for primary care, including vetting. This is the person who is eligible to become a CLIENT of Post-A-Pooch-Plus in order to safely re-home the pet.

The POTENTIAL ADOPTER is the person being considered by the pet owner as a possible new pet parent for the animal being re-homed. Potential adopters are encouraged to explore www.postapoochplus.com for valuable humane education information as well as listings of available pets.

The PRE-PLACEMENT COUNSELOR is the Post-A-Pooch-Plus contact person assigned to the client. The counselor will provide personalized counseling in order to assure a safe and appropriate re-homing of the pet. E-mail communication is encouraged between clients and their personal counselor whenever the client has a question or concern.

Clients are also encouraged to explore www.postapoochplus.com for valuable re-homing information.
A MEET and GREET is when an appointment is made between the pet owner and the potential adopter in order to meet the pet. Post-A-Pooch-Plus suggests three Meet and Greets if possible.
The first should be in the pet owner's home where the pet is most comfortable. The second is at the home of the potential adopter with all family members and pets in residence present. The third, providing all parties are in agreement, is when the pet actually changes families and the $25.00 posting fee is reimbursed to the pet owner by the adopter. Sample re-homing agreements are offered on our website.
The only exception to the $25.00 rule is if the adopter wishes to contribute additionally toward the recent spay/neuter expense the pet owner incurred in order to post the pet.

A TRADITIONAL SHELTER is a shelter that cannot guarantee a pet will be successfully adopted if put on the adoption floor. If your pet is not considered adoptable by their standards, the shelter will sadly tell you that the pet will be humanely euthanized if surrendered. The choice is yours. Not all shelters in WNY are Traditional Shelters.

A 501(C) 3 ANIMAL RESCUE GROUP is a not-for-profit organization that tries to focus on rescue and re-homing of needy animals. Many groups have been trying to assist personal pet owners. Our service is meant to free up rescue groups to concentrate on homeless pets if they wish to do so.
